Creating default members, visitors, and owners groups post site creation
The SharePoint page to create the default members, visitors, and owners groups can be found at /_layouts/permsetup.aspx
Getting Group Membership for Each User in the OU
You can use Get-ADUser to retrieve all the user objects within an OU and Get-ADPrincipalGroupMembership to retrieve the groups that contain each of those users.
For example, if we want to figure out group membership for every user in the TEES Fiscal Office, we can generate a CSV file that contains rows consisting of the username (sAMAaccountName) and a group that user belongs to. If a user belongs to multiple groups, the username will appear on multiple rows, once for each group.
The following code retrieves all the users in the TFO OU under the TEES OU within the tees.tamus.edu domain. We retrieve the groups each user is a member of and generate ordered pairs consisting of the sAMAccountname and group each user is a member of.
Get-ADUser -LDAPFilter "(name=*)" -SearchScope Subtree -SearchBase "OU=TFO,OU=TEES,DC=TEES,DC=TAMUS,DC=EDU" | %{ $user = $_ $user | Get-ADPrincipalGroupMembership | Select @{N="User";E={$user.sAMAccountName}},@{N="Group";E={$_.Name}} }| Select User,Group | Export-Csv report.csv –nti
Configuring People Picker to view accounts in the AUTH domain
Because we have a one way trust with the AUTH domain, we must configure the People Picker to look for accounts.
On each web front end (WFE), from a SharePoint 2016 Management Shell run as administrator, run the following command:
stsadm -o setapppassword -password "A strong password"
For each web application supply the password for the service account being used by the People Picker:
$password = Read-Host "Password:"
Configure the peoplepicker-searchadforests property:
stsadm -o setproperty -url http://wfe.address.com -pn peoplepicker-searchadforests -pv "domain:auth.tamu.edu,auth\serviceaccount,$password;domain:ourAD.address.com"
